The Cart Shed
Scotland
The conversion of a former cart shed, set adjacent to a coach house, into a refined short stay hospitality space for a private client.
The Cart Shed sits adjacent to a former coach house and was converted into a private short stay rental for our client. The brief was to create a calm, characterful space that could welcome guests while remaining entirely sympathetic to the original outbuilding.
The conversion retained as much of the original structure as possible. Slate was carefully salvaged and reset, original stonework was repaired and repointed, and inherited features were protected and worked back into the new layout so that the building’s history continues to read clearly throughout.
Behind that quiet exterior, the interior was finished to a refined hospitality standard. Services, insulation, lighting and joinery were planned in detail to deliver the comfort and ease guests expect, while keeping the architecture and salvaged materials firmly in the foreground.
